HERE You may remember a story that we put on the website back in November 2008, about this young girl Esthella, and her Kidney transplant operation. CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE STORY Over the past 2 years, Esthella has had many ups and downs. Without going into too much detail, Esthella's Mum is wanting to abandon her daughter, so our good friends, and Esthella's carers for the past 2 years, have decided to start the process of adopting her. Last week, Tammy & Eddie went to visit the doctor to talk about Esthella's progress. This was the alarming report; " Esthela's kidney is in chronic failure. Why did this happen? The doctor's best guess is because it wasn't taken care of well enough. While Eddie and I were gone doing DTS in Minnesota and spending the summer with my family she was hospitalized a few times and had trouble taking her medication at the right times. This is the most likely reason for the kidney failure. He says the kidney should have lasted 15-20 years. Within a year Esthela will most likely have to go on dialysis. When that happens she will be able to be put on the list for a new kidney. The doctor said that if Esthela stays with her mother that no doctor will do the transplant because if the kidney failed due to not being taken care of then a second one will as well. We told him that we are wanting to adopt Esthela and he said that if that was the case then he would do everything possible to make sure that Esthela got another kidney. He wanted us to be aware that there was still a chance of the second kidney to be rejected as well. We realize that all of our work still could result in Esthela suffering and, possibly passing away, but we know that it is the only chance that Esthela has" Please be in prayer for this new family as they tackle the challenges ahead. This weekend we had the honor of taking the familyout and building a home for a family in Ensenada. Joining us was also Sam's brother Chris, His wife Shan, and thier sister Becca. Our family was the Hernandez Mora family. Salvador, Patricia, with thier kids; Evelin, Perla & Braulio, have never had their own home. They always rented. A bit over a year ago they bought some land. They now have a small home there, they went to move there soon after buying it, because they couldn't keep paying the rent and the land payments at the same time. Their current home is in very bad conditions. It is very old, the roof now doesn't work and it has been very badly damaged by the rain. For Salvador it is very difficult to build a better home, because he is still paying off the land. He is the only one in the famiyl who works. His salary is quite small and is not enough to cover all their expenses It was a great privilege to see my kids workng together, and to be along side them while they painted and hammered. Living in Ensenada for so long, you can get blasay to the immense need here. But as you go out and meet the people, and work along side them, you learn to understand, that the smallest things can make you so happy. JAcob was fitting the windows on this house, and as thier yougest child saw them, he got very excited saying " We are going to have real windows that open!!" The day was finished with a very moving dedication ceremony, with many tears from the family and builders.
