Alfonso and Nayely have been together for 2 years. Nayely was married to the father of the children for 7 years. However her and the kids were physically abused by her ex. One day Nayely got tired of the violence and decided to run away and she came to Ensenada with the help of her mother. She has not been able to get divorced because of a lack of time and money, but 2 years ago she decided to live in a de-facto relationship with Alfonso. He has helped her a lot and he has accepted the kids as if they were his own. They rented a house and close to there they found an opportunity to buy some land on credit so they bought it. They are still paying it off. They pay 1500 pesos per month. Alfonso built a small room with pieces of old wood and made the roof from wood, covered with a tarp. It has no floor. They moved to live there, because they couldn’t afford to keep paying rent and the land payments. They have lived there for the last year. They have 1 bed that the children sleep in, and Alfonso and Nayely sleep on a rug on the floor. Alfonso works in a vegetable packing factory and earns 900 pesos each week. Sometimes he stays longer hours to work overtime and earn some more because they have a lot of expenses. Nayely works 3 days a week cleaning a house and gets paid 300 pesos for 3 days work. They have not been able to build a better home because the money they earn just covers the expenses they have. Thanks for being part of our lives and for helping hundreds of families each year receive new homes... |
