Thanks for all your concerned phone calls and emails over the past week, with regards to the swine flu outbreak. For the record, WE ARE ALL OK!!

Life in Ensenada is pretty much "Business as usual" with the exception of the schools being closed for the past 2 weeks. As you can imagine, the kids are very upset about that! The only difference about the town is things are alot quieter.
Ensenada is a town built on tourism, and with the percieved threats, the tourists have just stopped coming. The people who are really suffering are the shop and restaurant owners who rely on the steady flow of tourists for thier livelyhood.

At the same time the cruiseships are still coming to Ensenada, but instead of coming into port, they are anchoring out in the bay. Again affecting the local people who rely on the tourist trade to feed thier families
At YWAM, we are also seeing things slowing down. Again because of the percieved health threat of crossing the border, we are seeing our teams dropping out drastically for the next few months. This is heart wrenching to see as each team that drops out represents family that will have to wait a bit longer for a new home. We currently have over 200 families on our books waiting for a place to call home.
In the meantime, as a staff, we are working on other projects in the community. Last weekend we went out and reroofed 2 homes for local families, and are working on other projects to help improve the lives of the local people.
Please throw up a few prayers for us that we will see this threat quickly overcome. There will be a renewed confidence in Mexico, and we'd be able to get back to what we are called to do in building homes and seeing lives changed.
