Visit From The Mayor 12/06/2011
November has been a very busy month for us here in Ensenada. Hosting hundreds of short term missionaries and changing the lives of 15 families with the gift of a new home. Last weekend we were building 5 homes with 100 staff from Defender Direct. It was a great time, and the house build went very well, but there was a surprise. At the dedication ceremony of one of the homes, we had a visit from the Mayor of Ensenada and a number of his staff. This was a real treat for the family and the team, but there was more. After the house dedication he presented me and 2 of our other leaders a plaque, on behalf of the city, thanking us for our commitment to the people of Ensenada. This was a huge accolade to us and to all of our staff who have committed their lives to helping the people of Mexico. Add Comment The Cold Wind Cometh... 11/07/2011
This weekend has been cold and Wet in Ensenada. Pretty much like a good summers day in Newcastle!! But with the wind and rain, many people are realizing their houses are not adequate for their families. It showed especially today as we had over 100 people knocking on our door to apply for a new home, through our Homes of Hope Program. Some as early as 6am, waiting for the appointments at 10. As each family came through the door, you knew that each person had their own dream, their own hope of making life better for themselves and their families. What a privaledge it is for us, being part of making their dream come true. New Home For Deborah... 08/02/2011
Meet The Flores Family. Anabel, Tony, Anabel (jr), Elizabeth, Sarai and Deborah. Deborah, (now 7) was born with Celebal Palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. Unfortunately Here in Mexico, there are very few resources to help families like theirs to cope with children born with needs like Deborah's. Determined to overcome this, Anabel and Tony have pioneered their own organisation, Project Deborah. Inspired by their own little girl, and with a mission to teach, Train and resource families to find the joy in bringing up children with their own unique needs. Through this ministry, they have already seen many lives changed and families united in working together to bring up their children. The ministry has been very fortunate to have been given a large facility, just east of Ensenada to use as a training and resource center. With the financial situation of trying to pioneer a ministry and raise a family, the whole family decided to move into the training center to live and run the ministry. This worked well, but was also limiting with space and resources. This week, that all changed, as the Flores family was given the gift of a new home. A very Generous gift from the Tom & Jane Pirelli and the Arial Foundation. The home is 750sf, has 3 bedrooms, full kitchen and bathroom with waterless toilet. The house in the 66th home that the foundation has built here in Ensenada, many of them have been partnered with YWAM and Homes of Hope. This was a true Blessing and great reward to a family who is constantly giving back to the community around them. They Say Variety is the Spice of Life... 03/27/2011

![]() During this last week, ive had the privaledge of going out and helping to build our last few homes of 2010. One of them was the Lopez Cortez family. Living in a very poor house in Ensenada with their 2 children. Earning just 700pesos a week (about 30dollars) It was hard for them to make improvements, and think about the future. The gift of a new home will give them Hope, a safe roof over their heads, and a place to really call home. ![]() The other Family that we built for was the Trinidad Villarreal Family in a town just south of Ensenada. Living with their 4 children in one small room, they have no running water, or electricity. Earning just a few pesos a week working in the fields, the opportunity of a new home, has life changing possibilities for this family CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOS THANK YOU for being part of our lives, and for enabling families like these to receive new homes... Building Hope In Ensenada 06/04/2010
This weekend we had the honor of taking the familyout and building a home for a family in Ensenada. Joining us was also Sam's brother Chris, His wife Shan, and thier sister Becca. ![]() Our family was the Hernandez Mora family. Salvador, Patricia, with thier kids; Evelin, Perla & Braulio, have never had their own home. They always rented. A bit over a year ago they bought some land. They now have a small home there, they went to move there soon after buying it, because they couldn't keep paying the rent and the land payments at the same time. Their current home is in very bad conditions. It is very old, the roof now doesn't work and it has been very badly damaged by the rain. For Salvador it is very difficult to build a better home, because he is still paying off the land. He is the only one in the famiyl who works. His salary is quite small and is not enough to cover all their expenses ![]() It was a great privilege to see my kids workng together, and to be along side them while they painted and hammered. Living in Ensenada for so long, you can get blasay to the immense need here. But as you go out and meet the people, and work along side them, you learn to understand, that the smallest things can make you so happy. JAcob was fitting the windows on this house, and as thier yougest child saw them, he got very excited saying " We are going to have real windows that open!!" ![]() The day was finished with a very moving dedication ceremony, with many tears from the family and builders. ![]() So yesterday (Easter Sunday) was quite an exciting day for us. At 3:40pm we experienced a fairly extended, 7.2 Earthquake. At first i just thought the table was wobbling, but then realized everything else was moving as well. We immediately evacuated the campus. With our Base director being away, Tym took the lead in executing the evacuation and connecting with the authorities for the all clear to go back. During the rest of the day, there were a few minor Aftershocks, one was even strong enough to wake us up at 630 this morning. With the Tsunami warning a few weeks back, and now this... Its shaping up to be an eventful year!!! With the continued aftershocks going on after the earthquake in Chile, we currently have a team there, accessing our response, and how a Homes of Hope program would work in the situation there. In Haiti, we continue to have a team there, working with the YWAM campus, as they continue to be a lead player in helping restore the country. Thanks for all your emails and messages, we are all OK Building New hope for a family... 02/23/2010
![]() Let me introduce you to the Escalente Perez family. Originally from Chiapas in southern Mexico, they moved to Ensenada 4 years ago in search of medical help. Their oldest son was born with a cleft lip and pallet. The Father Reynoldo is 40, and Maria is 24 years old. They have 5 Children aged between 1 & 7. Reynoldo is a field worker, and earns up to a maximum of $12 dollars a day to support his family. During the past weeks, we have had alot of rain here in Ensenada, which for Reynoldo means no work. When we met them, because of the weather and no work, the family had not eaten for 3 days. ![]() Their current living conditions were some of the worst i have seen for a family. 7 people (Mum, Dad & 5 kids) all living under a tarpaulin shack. It was cold, damp with 1 small bed. Cooking was done outside on an open fire and the bathroom was a hole in the ground with a curtain hung up around it. ![]() 2 Weeks ago, we had the privilege to go out and build a new home for this family. No longer would they be sleeping on a dirt floor, no longer would they be getting wet when it rains. Their lives have been changed forever. Thank you for being part of our lives and for giving new hope to families like this one... | CategoriesAll ArchivesDecember 2011 Newsletters
